The Rev. Charles D. Hill was born in Waterloo, Iowa and raised
in Detroit, Michigan, where he received his early education. His
undergraduate matriculation began at Howard University in Washington,
D.C. and was completed at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas,
where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology.
Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, he returned to Howard
University where he received a Master of Divinity degree in May of 1992.
While attending seminary at Howard, he held the distinguished position
of Graduate Assistant to Rev. Dr. Evans Crawford, Dean of Chapels. He
also served as Minister of Community and Social Services for the Berean
Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., 1989-1992.
Rev. Hill’s ministerial experience began at Berean Baptist Church in
1987, where he was licensed to preach the gospel. As Berean’s Minister
of Community, he supervised the Tutorial, Mentorship, Senior Citizen and
Before-and-After School programs. His responsibilities also included
directing the Berean Crisis Center, which provided food, clothing, job
referrals and counseling to those in need.
In 1992, Rev. Hill was ordained to the gospel ministry at Berean Baptist
Church.
Upon the recommendation of Rev. Dr. William D. Watley, he began his
duties as Executive Minister of the historic St. James A.M.E Church of
Newark, N.J., in 1992. At St. James, he organized a Wednesday Lunch
Worship Service, Mobile Youth Sunday School, Youth Revival and Teen
Bible Study.
Rev. Hill has been blessed to serve as: Pastor of the Roger Williams
Baptist Church, Passaic, N.J.; Interim Pastor of the Good Shepherd
Baptist Church, Elyria, O.H.; Mentor for Newark’s Young Father Program,
Newark, N.J.; Coordinator of the Male Responsibility Program for the
Bergen County Urban League, Englewood, N.J.; Coordinator for the Bergen
County Youth Advocate Program, Englewood, N.J.; Mentor for the New
Jersey National Guard Youth Challenge Program, Fort Dix, N.J.
Prior to having a stroke on November 2, 2008, Rev. Hill worked for four
years to foster the needs of developmentally disabled adults as an
Option Quest Specialist for Community Options in Moorestown, N.J.
Rev. Hill is married to the former Lisa Marie Harvey of Bowie, Maryland.
They are the parents of three precious daughters, Ashley, Jessica and
Kayla Hill.
