Rev. Danny Eugene Scotton, Sr.
is the Senior Pastor of the Alpha Baptist
Church in Willingboro, New Jersey. Rev. Scotton is a servant leader who
has brought a do as I do approach to the ministry of Alpha Baptist. Rev.
Scotton’s partner in ministry and marriage is his college sweetheart,
the former Linda Cornelius of Chicago, Illinois. They were married in
July of 1983 and are the proud parents of two wonderful young men, Danny
Jr., a 22 year old Princeton University graduate and Terrance, a 19 year
old sophomore at Northwestern University. First Lady Linda L. Scotton
works professionally as a Home Care Physical Therapist and serves in the
music, dance and scholarship ministries of Alpha.
Rev. Scotton is a native of High Point, North Carolina, where he was
born the eighth of eleven children to Lovell and Tommie Pearl Scotton.
He relocated with his family to the Northeast (NJ and PA) at the age of
five. After a successful academic and athletic career at Bensalem High
School in Bensalem, PA, Rev. Scotton received a full athletic
scholarship in wrestling from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.
He graduated in 1982 with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and was
awarded the degree of MS in Electrical Engineering from Fairleigh
Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ, in 1986.
Rev. Scotton graduated from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary (now
Palmer Seminary) in May 2000 with a Master’s of Divinity Degree (M.Div).
He is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) in Leadership
of Missional Church Renewal at Palmer Seminary in Wynnewood,
Pennsylvania.
Rev. Scotton worked as an Electrical Engineer for over twenty years
serving in numerous positions from Design Engineer to Sr. Program
Director. Rev. Scotton served as a Deacon at Alpha for many years and
accepted the call to Ministry in November of 1993. Rev. Scotton was
licensed to the Gospel Ministry on September 10, 1995 at Alpha and was
ordained at Alpha on July 11, 2004 while serving as Pastor.
Rev. Scotton served in the Lord's Ministry at Alpha for over fifteen
years (duties included Assistant Pastor, Youth Pastor, Deacon, Youth
Task Force Administrator, member of the Men's Task Force and sang on
multiple choirs).
After completing a two year Field Education at Alpha in 1999, serving as
the Assistant Pastor, Rev. Scotton and his family joined the Tabernacle
Baptist Church Family in Burlington, New Jersey. At Tabernacle, Rev.
Scotton served as an Associate Minister under the leadership of the
late, Pastor Dr. Richard W. Jones. His major duties at Tabernacle
included coordinating the youth programs (SHINE Youth Ministry),
teaching the Sr. High School Bible Study, teaching the New Members Class
and assisting the pastor during worship services.
On September 29, 2002, Rev. Scotton was installed as the pastor of the
Alpha Baptist Church. Rev. Scotton was blessed to become a full-time
pastor at Alpha in January 2004. God’s anointing on his pastorate has
been evidenced by tremendous numerical and spiritual growth of Alpha
Baptist Church. Rev. Scotton loves the Lord and truly loves the Lord’s
people.
Rev. Scotton is past President of the Willingboro Clergy Association,
past member of the Executive Executive Board of the American Baptist
Churches of New Jersey, and past member of the Executive Board of the
Greater Delaware Valley Association of American Baptist Churches.
